ABOUT US

We as HopeTown community love God and people by promoting the holistic development of men, women and children living in the Ocean View Township. Our HopeTown family includes young people coming from criminal backgrounds, teenage mothers and fathers, school dropouts and young people struggling with addiction. Even though the struggle is real, it is not the end.

There is HOPE.

We build a healthy community, provide sustainable support through education, training and mentoring, raise young leaders and empower them to grow into a life with passion and purpose. Change is possible.

DISCOVER HOPETOWN

OUR INVESTMENT

As community want to bring hope and perspective to the young people at risk. In 2016 we founded HopeTown a youth community and youth movement in Ocean View. We'd love to tell you about the investment of Hopetown in Ocean View:

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Young people are unique and full of potential. However, in Ocean View, the unemployment rate is extremely high, leaving many without job opportunities. We offer young unemployed people a chance to change their lives. Through a three-step program, interns learn to take responsibility for their lives, overcome challenges, grow towards self-sustainability, and prepare themselves for the work environment.

We don't believe in free handouts but give training opportuntities to become the solution for themselves.

We believe that our full time internship training can change the narrative of their lives, bring generational change and break the cycle of poverty.

YOUTH AND CHILDREN ACTIVITIES

We believe that a healthy community can help prevent young people from joining gangs and making poor decisions. That is why we invest in different age and interest groups, aiming to build healthy friendships, teach life skills, and share the Gospel of Jesus in a fun, relational and engaging way.

We create spaces where young people can grow and connect – whether through our student hub, sports activities or art education programs. We play floorball, host teen nights, offer dance lessons or provide a supportive young moms group to support them.

The young people from the internship program take on supportive roles in the community activities, allowing them to gain valuable experience in supporting other young people. Additionally, serving others fosters empathy and helps them move beyond a victim mentality.

DESCIPLESHIP HOUSE EDEN

The «Living Community» in our discipleship house provides a Christ-centered, save and structured community living environment for young people at risk. Through assisted living, we support young people for 1–3 years with clear structures and healthy parenthood, helping them transition to an independent life. Our care empowers them to develop decision-making skills and make healthy choices. Work integration and household management are key components of their training.

HOPETOWN ACADEMY

In South Africa, about 40% of children drop out of school. The rate of engagement in high-risk behaviors—such as crime, teenage pregnancy, and alcohol or drug abuse—is significantly higher among dropouts. At HopeTown Academy (our small High School), we create a supportive schooling environment for youth who have dropped out of the formal education system. We foster a safe place of belonging and a positive outlook on learning. Our holistic curriculum includes the basic academic framework, skills training, sports activities, creativity and lifeskills. By doing so, we empower young people to reach their full potential and become positive influences in
their communities.
